Root -> Bringing Water Indoors With Waterfalls and Fountains

There are very few indisputable facts in science, as time after time scientific fact becomes scientific fiction. One thing is certain, though, is that water is and has always been an essential for human life. In modern times, though, water has acquired a greater reputation and is appreciated more than it was for its visual and sound qualities, both in home and garden, plus its relaxing therapeutic values. In recent times, fountains and waterfalls have moved indoors, even into modest modern homes.

Indoor waterfalls, and fountains, have a firm place now in the thoughts of home owners and interior designers. You may be wondering: how can you have a waterfall indoors? Well, you can, but the chances are it will bear little resemblance to nature’s falls.

What Types of Indoor Waterfalls Are There?

Waterfalls that are intended for indoor use come in several forms. Some, in fact, are described as fountains, although they are more like waterfalls than fountains, with the water flowing down rather than spouting upwards and then falling as in a traditional fountain.

Waterfalls for the home can be designed in ultra modern styles for the contemporary home, or with a more traditional appeal for a period or older style home. They basically follow the same pattern; a water supply is pumped up the back of a screen, for it then to trickle down the front, then back up to the top again. Some of these falls have genuine sounds of water flow, sometimes they are augmented by artificial means to provide the relaxing sounds some people seek for a peaceful environment.

Modern indoor waterfalls are usually flat, with often a slate or copper, face down which the water trickles. That face can be dimpled, or curved, or virtually straight, but the overall design will usually incorporate some attractive embellishments to make the waterfall more attractive as home decor

. Those embellishments could be statues, colored pebbles lighting, carved decoration or other design feature to make the waterfall more appealing. Or, a mix of these and other features.

Waterfalls for inside the home are either freestanding indoor waterfalls or wall hanging. They can vary greatly in size, even standing taller than the home owner in some cases, right down to a small unobtrusive size. Wall hanging waterfalls can be just as big as the freestanding falls, but you should be absolutely sure the wall is strong enough to take the weight, and that instructions for fitting are followed.

Freestanding waterfalls give you greater flexibility, as they are easier to move around. Even so, the larger ones can be heavy, so try to get your positioning right first time, and ensure that the indoor waterfalls fit nicely with the room décor.
